D2 - Discuss how the post production edits have complemented recorded cinematography effects to create meaning

Image
In this post, I will evaluate and explain how the editing has complemented the lighting and camerawork choices to creat the cinematic quality.  Roland Barthes' 'Narrative Codes' theory states that media products have a denotation and a connotation and that there are different codes that the narratives conventions can fit into, such as Action codes (actions that give the viewer ideas about what to expect relying on the idea of cause and effect), and Enigma codes (puzzles or problems to be solved by the audience). Even though my music video doesn't necessarily follow any of these narrative codes, I ensured I included denotations and connotations that can be inferred by the spectator. For example, by applying the colourful stylistic effect on the footage, it connotes that R&B music. The main goal was to make a music video that supports different communities to allow them to feel connected. We did through the use of coloured lighting, high camera quality and colourful t

In this post, I will explore different narrative theories and the impact that they have had on the genre of my music video. The genre of my music video is R&B/Soul pop as Beyonce is an R&B artist. A typical The music video is performative with different people dancing on a stage. The lighting was 2 point lighting, with a coloured LED light as the fill light and a solid white light as the key light. On the coloured light we manipulated it using an app that allows us to choose specific settings. We used the colours of the pride flag because BeyoncĂ© is knows for being an icon within a gay community. The red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple colour of the colours are traditional and recognisable within an LGBT community. Through the repeated use of these colours, we were able to reinforce the theme of being unique, similarly to the message of the song, with the repeated use of the lyric 'UNIQUE'.  There are 2 major things I considered when choosing what camera to shoo

P7 - Apply post production and editing techniques

Production (Rushes): Here is my finished music video uploaded to Youtube: Edits: Creating an offline edit is important as it allows the editor to visualise the edit using the clips in order before adding effects. Having the rushes unedited and in chronological order allows for an easier way to add transitions and other edits. Here are the settings for the Premier Pro file before I added the videos to the timeline. I used the timecode for the display format and used the Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration. I researched the engine online to learn about the uses of the GPU. Here are what I found: To create the sliding clips effect, I had each of the chosen clips in order on the timeline in the same colour order as the pride flag. The use of the colour order relates to Roland Barthes narrative codes as it is a denotation/connotation that can be inferred by the viewers. I also cropped the clips to be the correct size by using keyframes to correctly synchronise to the letters where each

M1 - Explain the use of lighting and camera setting in the context of the plan you have created

In this post I will discuss the lighting and camera types and settings I will use to capture industry quality footage for my music video. For the lighting of our music video, we will film in the lecture theatre as the room is dark with lights off and blinds down. We can eliminate most natural light to ensure the room is dark enough. We will use LED lights to create the desired lighting, using 3 point lighting (a key light, fill light and a backlight)  as  three point setup includes a key light, a fill light and a backlight).  The key light is placed in front of the subject and is the brightest light. The camera is placed close to the key light to get the central position of the subject and the camera may be placed at eye level. It is better to choose a light that has different temperature settings, intensity and control as it will give better results. This helps to account for skin tones and different backgrounds. 45 degrees is an ideal angle for the key light setup.   The fill light

M2: Ensure footage reflects generic conventions

Cinematic footage: The genre of Alien Superstar falls under contemporary R&B. Contemporary R&B music videos are known for their cinematic qualities, such as lighting, shot types and camera angles, that enhance their visual appeal and storytelling impact. One of these qualities is high production value, which often includes elaborate sets, special effects, and intricate camera work. These elements work together to create a visually stunning and memorable experience for the viewer. Another cinematic quality that many R&B music videos exhibit is narrative storytelling. Through the use of cinematic techniques such as flashbacks, jump cuts, and nonlinear editing, many R&B music videos tell a story through the visuals. This approach helps to create a sense of continuity and coherence in the narrative, which can be emotionally engaging for the viewer. Mood and atmosphere are also important cinematic qualities in contemporary R&B music videos. Lighting, color grading, and o
