P7 - Apply post production and editing techniques

Production (Rushes):

Here is my finished music video uploaded to Youtube:

Edits:
Creating an offline edit is important as it allows the editor to visualise the edit using the clips in order before adding effects. Having the rushes unedited and in chronological order allows for an easier way to add transitions and other edits.

Here are the settings for the Premier Pro file before I added the videos to the timeline.

I used the timecode for the display format and used the Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration. I researched the engine online to learn about the uses of the GPU. Here are what I found:

To create the sliding clips effect, I had each of the chosen clips in order on the timeline in the same colour order as the pride flag. The use of the colour order relates to Roland Barthes narrative codes as it is a denotation/connotation that can be inferred by the viewers. I also cropped the clips to be the correct size by using keyframes to correctly synchronise to the letters where each clip slides into the next (e.g. U is the first clip, N is the second clip, I is the third clip....)

I decided to add a film dissolve in this scene as it establishes a link to both of the clips. This was done to show the link between the 2 clips as they are both aesthetically linked together through the lighting and colour.

For a dramatic effect, we chose to remove all of the colour to show that everyone is equal and created uniformity and removes any indifferences with skin tones. The use of the Black and white can also be used to show a neutral aesthetic that is free from any distractions and biases based with colour.

Lighting:

We used two-point lighting, which is a cinematography technique that involves using two sources of light to illuminate a subject or scene. This technique is often used in filmmaking and photography to create a sense of depth, texture, and drama in the image. By positioning two lights at different angles, filmmakers can create a range of lighting effects that can help support the narrative and enhance the emotional impact of the scene. This can make the scene feel more immersive and lifelike, and help draw the viewer's eye to key elements within the frame.

Exporting:

When exporting my video, I kept in mind the quality of the footage and wanted the best and highest quality export. I chose to export it as the H.264 file format which is a high quality standard format. I also exported the file as. 4K as the footage we used was 4k.
